Deforestation in most regions of East Africa has resulted in reduced rainfall. For example, the forest cover of Kenya is currently at 1.7%. At least 10% coverage is needed for adequate rainfall and for the land to produce enough food for the citizens of this nation. A gift of $100 is enough to start a Tree Nursery. With this amount, a village church or school will be able to buy the needed supplies to set up a small tree nursery. The nursery will sell seedlings to members and to the community at a reduced cost. On this basis, each nursery will be financially self-sustaining. The trees can be planted in individual farms, homes, or at public service centers such as schools and hospitals.
